What should a job application tracker include?

A useful tracker should capture enough information to answer three questions: where each application stands, when you need to follow up and which sources or resume versions produce responses. Avoid turning the tracker into a database of sensitive identity documents.

Google Sheets workflow

  1. Download the Excel tracker above.
  2. In Google Drive, choose New → File upload and select the .xlsx file.
  3. Open the uploaded workbook with Google Sheets.
  4. Use File → Save as Google Sheets if you want a native Sheets copy.

The browser tracker and spreadsheet are separate. Export/import CSV when you want to move rows between them.

How to use the tracker during a job search

  1. Add the role as soon as you decide it is worth pursuing.
  2. Record the source so you can compare which job boards and employer pages produce responses.
  3. Set a follow-up date when appropriate instead of relying on memory.
  4. Record the resume version used so you can see which positioning performs better across similar roles.
  5. Archive closed applications rather than deleting your search history.

Pair the tracker with the Teal review when deciding whether a paid all-in-one workflow would actually replace enough manual work to justify its cost.
